Dreaming Of Candy Corn

Last year my BFF Martha asked her viewers to send in photos of their Halloween decorations and creations.  I wanted to make something for my dear friend that she hadn't seen before.  I let my creative juices flow and had hundreds of ideas that I wanted to jot down on paper and eventually craft.  Well, let's just say I got busy soon after and neither the paper or craft part ever happened.  I can't remember most of the things I wanted to do but one thing always stuck with me, and that was of making a Halloween garland with Candy Corn in it.  Okay, not exactly an idea to wow Martha with but still something that made me smile when I thought of it since Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.

Unfortunately I never got the time last year to craft up my Candy Corn Garland, but a few weeks ago I remembered my idea and had been planning here and there how i'd make it.  While BB was busy watching the new Wallace And Gromit adventure (more on that later) this weekend, I decided to take the plunge and crank out the garland that had been haunting my dreams (dramatic, I know).  I love how it came out, and it was so easy to make!

Since we're packing at home and won't be there for Halloween, I decided to decorate my cubicle at work in the meantime.  My sister has already volunteered to use it for Halloween this year since she's hosting a mini party at her house on the big day. 

Oh, and here's the view from inside my cube.  The garland was a bit too long so I was able to wrap it around my door.

I still have some "negatives" of the Candy Corn so I may use them to make another Gardland or craft something else up.  I'm so happy with it and it's really gotten me into the Halloween crafting mood!

In The Fish Bowl

A few weeks ago I stumbled on to Marisa's blog -Creative Thursday- via SouleMama.  Marisa is a talented gal and besides blogging, also has her own podcast and hosts Squam Workshop and an E-Course.

I'm so excited to say that I'll be a part of her latest course: In The Fish Bowl: Life as an Artist Online.  It's one of those things that you read about and think to yourself, 'this was made just for me!'.  I'm so excited and can't wait for it to begin tomorrow.  Unfortunately this session is sold out but Marisa is taking names and placing them on a waiting list if you'd like to join any future events.  See ya in the fish bowl!

Dinner Plans

As I was leaving work today, I decided that I'd make dinner for BB and myself tonight.  On most nights you can find the two of us at my Mom's house eating her delicious home made meals.  But tonight, I would make BB a feast and she would love it.

While she napped I got dinner ready.  I took some chicken tenderloins out of the freezer, put a few in a sandwich bag and put that in a tub of cold water (I read somewhere this is the best way to quickly defrost meats and has worked for me in the past).  I'll be honest though, this was about 15 minutes before BB was supposed to wake up since I lost track of time while watching this show.

Anywhoo, they were nicely defrosted when it was time for her to wake up so I set about making our dinner.  I've made chicken tenders a few times already in the last few weeks and the last 2 times were very successful. Why wouldn't this time be any different?  I cooked the tender and totes and felt pretty good about myself.  BB had a seat, I popped Wallace and Gromit in the DVD player and sat down with our dinner.

To say that dinner was a total disaster would be going a bit too far but to be honest, it definitely wasn't the feast I had anticipated.  I don't know howit happened but the whole thing was super greasy!  The kind of greasy that gets in your mouth and makes you nauseous.  Bleh.  Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating but I definitely need to perfect my cooking skills.  After all, I'm no Pioneer Woman but wouldn't that be nice?  Having the ability to whip out a hearty and yummy meal for your family?

So i've made a decision.  While we temporarily move in with my parents during our house remodel, I plan on trying out recipes that Ree has posted as well as other yummy treats that I've found on the internet.  I'll blog about my successes and failures (hopefully the good out weighs the bad!) and I hope in the end I'll learn a thing or two about cooking.  Who knows, maybe my Mom will even take pity and show me how to make her trademark dishes?  A girl can dream can't she? :)
