A few weeks ago, the Mr., BB and I headed to B's long awaited allergist's appointment. We had been both eagerly waiting for this day and dreading it as well. We wanted needed to see an allergist since my little girl has had some horrible reactions in the past few months when she's come into contact with tree nuts. For her safety we needed to be sure she indeed had an allergy, but we were dreading the skin / blood tests that would inevitably have to happen.
To our surprise, BB did a fantastic job all around with the nurses, doctor and skin test and we were so proud of her. She even said "thank you" to the nurse who administered the skin test (she also did tell her "you're killing me!" but that was only once, ha!)! This is the very same girl who wailed like we were conducting experiments on her the last time we went to her primary doctor just to talk about the possibility of an allergy ... kids always surprise you!
Anyway, turns out BB has a very strong allergy to all tree nuts (some more than others like walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds) so we not only have to carry around Benadryl & Epi Pen Jr's, but we have to watch what we eat when we're out and about and change our eating habits at home as well. It's a bit time consuming but totally worth it to keep our girl healthy. That being said, I've been trying out plenty of recipes lately that are nut-less and I hope to share them soon. I've also taken a stab at making my own bread which resulted in a minor kitchen accident that I'll share later (the Mr. said, "um, is that supposed to happen?").
Oh, and speaking of nuts ...
