While I may not be in love with the scads of bugs that suburbia has to offer, I do love the fact that I've been able to grow my little garden a bit bigger then I had in the past. In the beginning though, it was touch and go. The bunnies and other wildlife were having a field day with my little plants and loved gobbling them up, but once we sorted that problem out my babies have been flourishing.
I am one proud Momma and can't wait for my first harvest. In no particular order here are my yummy little ones ...
Squash (not sure exactly which variety just yet). Unfortunately, that big boy right there met an untimely demise last night. We've had some really strong winds and the trellis that was holding her up fell to the ground, taking this rotund squash with it. The fall did the most damage but the bunnies took care of the rest. C'est la vie.
Eggplant! This is my first time growing eggplant and I'm so excited to watch them grow. Not so much because I like them and to tell you the truth, Mr. Phantom Moon is the eggplant lover in our house so he'll be enjoying this baby. How cute is that little bud?
Tons of tomato plants! We have in our mix the following tomatoes ... Heirloom, Cherry, Plum and Easy Girl (love that name, ha!).
Yummy Basil. I just love the smell of basil. It just signifies summer time to me and all of the fresh produce possibilities. We've already used so much of the basil already and have loads left over which is awesome.
And last but not least, there are some really pretty flowers that have popped up that the old owners planted. The prettiest right now are these vivid Orange Lilies. They brighten up the yard so much and it's such a treat to watch butterflies hover near them.
Now let's hope the little critters in the neighborhood stay away until I'm able to harvest these babies when they're nice and ripe.
