And The Winner Is ...

(spoiler alert!  if you don't want to know the winner do not scroll down)
Considering once upon a time I wanted to be a Special Effects makeup artist, I absolutely love watching SyFy's Face Off.  While I used to imagine myself as a contestant (and try and figure out what creation I'd make that would stun the judges), these days I just like getting entertained by the over the top creatures the contestants come up with weekly. 

If you're not familiar with Face Off, it's a weekly competition show where contestants are tasked with building new and exciting creatures based on theat week's challenge.  This season they contestants rocked it and made so many super awesome characters!

I honestly don't know how these guys and gals pull it off every week!  But they most definitely do and it makes for some amazing work.  The have a few days to come up with a concept, sculpt a creature (and most times their props too), mold their sculpt and then paint it on application day.  I'm not sure I could do all that in a month but holy moley, they get it done each and every week.

On Halloween night, Syfy aired it's online finale where 'we the people' chose the winner, not the judges.  While I have mixed feelings about that decision (why should the every day person vs seasoned professional judges be allowed to make such a huge choice?) I have to admit that the final three finalists were fantastic!  The finalists had to create both a Witch and Demon from an element of their choosing - Laura chose earth:

Gorgeous colors on the Witch, right?  I love the orbishness in the middle of her chest as well as the color combinations she chose.  The Demon .... meh.

Derek chose Fire (one of my favorites of the night!):

I loved Derek's Witch!  What awesome colors and I love how the lava / fire peeked through the cracks.  His demon was pretty neat too and I liked his overall concept.

And last but not least, Nicole who chose Water:

Her Witch and Demon blew me away!  I loved her concept and how each of her characters flowed together.  And using feather quills for the teeth?  Brilliant!

And the winner is?  Nicole!  While I hate letting viewers chose (hello, popularity contest?) I think they may have hit the nail on the head with this one.  She did a great job and deserves the win.  BUT, I also think Derek was fantastic and I hope he gets plenty of gigs as a result of the show.  So, did you watch and think Nicole should have won as well?  Or maybe Derek or Laura?

From the looks of the end of the show, Season 4 is already under way and is scheduled to air in January.  In the meantime, it's time for me to catch up on this seasons The Walking Dead.  Let's hope they don't lose Carl in the first episode back ...
