If you know me, then you know I adore Martha Stewart. I DVR her show daily and enjoy all the tips and secrets she shares with her guests and audience. For the longest time I told Sister that if I ever had the oppurtunity to see Martha in real life I would jump at the chance. Well my friends, I got my chance to see her and be a member of the studio audience this Tuesday! To say that I lost my breath when I heard I would be able to see her would be an understatment.
To prepare, I purchased new clothes (don't worry, I used a Macy's coupon to secure the best deal) and even had my sister dye my hair. Bye bye white hairs, hello Martha!
On Tuesday morning I woke up bright and early and was ready in record time. Actually, I was ready even before I normally am for work! I guess having the right motivator really helps! My stomach churned the whole ride up to NY and when we finally pulled up in front of her studio, I just about bolted from the car squeeling, "Martha, I'm here! Hire me please!". I instead held in my excitement, gobbled down a free doughnut and held my confirmation letter in my sweaty little paws.
Then, they began to let us in. I held my head up high, walked up to the woman registering us and gave her my name. "I'm sorry, you're not on the list". I almost fell right there but calmly gave her my name again, this time spelling it out. Luckly, all was sorted and we were let in. While waiting for the filming to begin, we signed our waivers and were allowed to purchase items from the mini Martha Stewart shop. I purchased 2 cupcake totes (one for me, one for my SIL) and a chocolate brown shirt with blue lettering that says, "It's A Good Thing -Martha". I so can not wait to wear it!
Anyway, back to my story. As we were waiting, the infamous Joey Kola came in to warm up the audience. Let me tell you, this man is electric! He has all of the energy that is needed to get his job done and then some - great job, Joey!
After his schtick, we were finally shuffled into Martha's Studio. I said a silent prayer that I wouldn't make a fool out of myself, and made my way in with the rest of the crowd. The set was fully decorated for Halloween and looked splendid! The set girl said, "keep Pink on the aisle" (aka my well dressed sister) and we moved right along as instructed. Maybe she thought I was too excited and would bolt down the aisle as soon as I saw Martha (I'm a serial hugger and usually at the most awkward of times)? Nah, I'm sure it had to do with the fact that my sister was the better dressed :) We were seated in front of the craft and gardening area and moved in groved in our seat waiting for the show to start.
And then it did. It was soooo fun seeing Martha live in action! To say that Martha is a professional is an understatement. Martha did a fantastic job and was so poised and composed throughout the entire show. If that had been me up there in front of those camera's and audience members I would have made a fool of myself one time too many. Alas, that's why we leave such things to professionals.
We laughed, ooh'd and aah'd throughout the entire show (which will air this Friday!) and had a glorious time. I can't wait to go back! I added my name to the ticket queue for November / December so hopefully we're picked and can bring my Sister-in-law this time! Oh, and we even got a freebie! It was such a fantastic and tiring experience and I can't wait to do it again. Maybe next time I'll pluck up the courage and ask her a question during her Q&A session. Or maybe not since smelling salts may be needed to revive me ...
